Speak for the Trees

SPEAK for the TREES!

Forests Forever was founded in 1989 during the historic campaign to save the Headwaters ancient redwood forest in Humboldt County, California.

Our efforts helped galvanize the broad-based public awareness and outcry that led to that and other forest victories across the state.

For over 30 years we have been rallying Californians in defense of the state’s 33 million acres of woodland ecosystems and watersheds. We engage in year-round education, grassroots organizing and executive-branch and legislative advocacy.

We are pushing for standards which promote sustainable forestry practices and hold the timber industry accountable for forest degradation and water pollution.

>Forests Forever canvassers lend their support at hearing in Mendocino County Forests Forever canvassers lend their support at a recent hearing where Mendocino County residents are up in arms about the landscape-scale tree poisoning practice, bizarrely (appropriately?) called "hack and squirt," undertaken by Mendocino Redwood Company. The timber giant is killing millions of native hardwoods it deems "undesirable" in an effort to speed up the rate at which it can grow and log valuable redwoods. Problem is, leaving millions of standing dead trees is a whopping fire hazard, and that's just one problem with the practice....

Forests Forever's canvassers begin gathering signatures in order to qualify an ordinance in what has become the latest battle to defeat hack-and-squirt processes by timber companies. Forests Forever's activists begin gathering signatures to qualify a Mendocino County ballot measure to declare as a public nuisance the poisoning and leaving standing of dead trees.
