Let's hang onto best carbon-trapping ecosystems on Earth—old forests!

Across the U.S. trees of a century or more in age still can be found but millions of acres are under threat from logging, as well as global warming, fragmentation from roadbuilding, and myriad other impacts. Once destroyed these forests will take a great deal of time to grow back and will never be the same.
Saving mature and old-growth forests helps to achieve the U.S. and California goals of saving 30 percent of lands and waters as functioning natural habitat by 2030. Beyond this, healthy and abundant forests clean air and water, enrich wildlife habitat, and underpin strong and sustainable tourism and recreation economies.
Stronger forest-protection policies are more important than they have ever been.
